    Downy mildew and soft rot control on Onions

    Common diseases of onion

    Downy mildew can occur at all stages from plant seedlings to harvesting, and adult plants are severely damaged. It mainly damages the leaves and develops from the base to the upper leaves. When the air is humid, the back of the leaves produces a frosty mold layer, which can sometimes spread to the leaf surface. In the later stage, the lesions were withered and contiguous and were yellowish-brown.

    The soft rot lesions spread upward from the petiole in sheets, and eventually, the leaf bulbs rot from the outside to the inside. When expanding upward from the root, the leaf ball rots from the inside to the outside, and it is milky yellow muddy, and smelly. Because the tissues of the roots and stem bases become brittle after being damaged, the leaf balls are easy to fall off, and they fall when touched. During storage, the leaf bulbs are easy to fall off or rot and the veins of the affected leaves turn dark brown.
