Throughout that time, one of the most common questions we’ve received from growers and operators has remained the same:

It sounds like a simple question.

But after years of working with agricultural drone applications, we’ve learned that there is no single set of spreading parameters that works for every material, every application rate, and every field.

That’s one reason we’ve always been cautious about publishing a single parameter chart.

Not because the information shouldn’t be shared.

But because spreading parameters are not a fixed recipe.


Why We Don’t Treat Parameters as a Formula

A setting that works well for one material and application rate may produce a very different result when the seed, density, rate, wind, or field conditions change.

A successful spreading operation depends on several parameters working together:

Material type, seed size & density
Target application rate
Auger / feeder selection
Flight speed
Flight height
Spinner RPM
Effective swath width
Wind & field conditions

Change one, and you may need to adjust another.

That’s why simply copying someone else’s numbers doesn’t always produce the same result in your field.

The Chart Is the Starting Point — Not the Answer

For example, knowing that a particular material may start around a certain speed, height, swath width, or spinner RPM is useful.

But the more important questions are:

What happens when your target rate changes?

What if your barley or cover crop seed has a different size or density?

What happens to application rate when flight speed changes?

How should effective swath width be verified?

What if you’re spreading a multi-species cover crop mix?

When should you change the auger or feeder?

Those are the decisions that turn a parameter chart into a successful field operation.

Before going to a full field, we recommend calibrating with the actual material and verifying both:

1. Are you applying the correct amount per acre?

2. Is the material being distributed uniformly across the effective swath?

A few minutes spent verifying these two things can reduce trial and error, unnecessary product use, uneven application, and costly corrections later.
